In the year 1990, the US Congress introduced the EB-5 Visa with an aim to create more jobs and stimulate the country’s economy. A potential immigrant who can invest a minimum of $1 million or $500,000 (half a million) (if investment is in a targeted area) in the US and is desirous of gaining permanent residency in the US can take advantage of the EB-5 visa program. The investment has to create at least 10 new jobs for qualified US workers.
The overall processing time for the EB-5 Visa can be up to one year. If the petition is approved, the applicant and their dependents will be granted permission for permanent residence for two years. During this period, they need to prove that they have created 10 jobs successfully; later a conditional green card will be issued to them. An investor applies to remove conditional green card, and then he/she gets permanent resident status. After 5 years of residency period, investor’s immigration attorney submits N-400 naturalization application for US citizenship.
